• More than just the “usual”.

Life is a funny thing – there are days, weeks even months when things are on a mostly even keel.  People ask what have you been doing and you respond “Not much….  Just the usual….  Just boring stuff really”.  Life is full of the everyday stuff – work, home life, bills, food shopping, family sport, your usual groups and catch ups.  Every now and then, though, life throws you a curve ball.  Sometimes these are small challenges that we tackle with our usual resilience and, although trying, we emerge the other side mostly unscathed.  But sometimes we are dealt a big blow – one that rocks us to the core;…

  • Only 13 weeks until Spring!

Winter has arrived and while we have been blessed with a sunny start to the coldest season, we can tell by our toes that temperatures have been icy. Some people relish the coldest month – for them it’s a time to snuggle up in front of the Coonara with a hot drink, or whizz down the slopes of whatever snowfield you can travel to, but for many people Winter brings with it feelings of sadness, changes in sleep patterns and a loss of enjoyment in many things.  These symptoms could be associated with the Seasonal Affective Disorder, known as SAD. We can’t avoid Winter (unless you’re lucky to have a…

  • Here we go again…

As you may all be aware, a snap lockdown was announced today for seven days to deal with the current COVID outbreak.  For some, this may have been expected and you may have already set plans in motion for life in lockdown.  For others, this has come as a surprise and you are just processing what you need to do.  For most of us, this feels a bit like groundhog day – we have been here before!  The good thing about that is that we know what to expect and as us Victorians have shown in the past, we are a resilient bunch! As per Government requirements, we will be…

  • VOLUNTEERS

ALWAYS NEEDED – FOREVER APPRECIATED It is National Volunteer Week, a perfect time to celebrate and thank all the wonderful volunteers who contribute to Seville Community House and our community. Their significant donation of time and support in a wide variety of circumstances cannot be underestimated in our continuing endeavours to provide services and connections for the people of Seville and beyond.  Sincerest thanks to you all. It is also a chance to ask, “Have you ever thought about volunteering?” It doesn’t need to take a huge amount of your time or involve special skills but ask many a volunteer and they will say that the greatest benefits of volunteering…

  • A garden of change.

Change is part of life.  Sometimes a change is what we need – a change of scenery , a change is better than a holiday, chop and change, sea change, a change of heart.  These changes uplift us, inspire us and challenge us in a positive way.  At other times change is difficult and confronting and we wish life could stay as it was before. If we could turn back time, rewind and stay the same. As in life, our gardens go through change.  Our plants bloom and grow, following their path to the sun. They change with the seasons and the passing of time.  They bring us joy throughout…

  • We (SCH) exist to make a positive impact – not to employ staff or have a Governance Committee.

We (SCH) exist to make a positive impact – not to employ staff or have a Governance Committee. A small Community House needs its community to be involved – whether that means you use our services, attend classes or one-off workshops, join our Committee or volunteer with us. It may even be that you provide us with valuable feedback about what we could be doing better. Our building and grounds are compact, but that doesn’t mean that our thinking has to be small. It takes a lot of thought and planning to be able to deliver the activities that we do, and we always welcome your input – perhaps you’d…

  • Can You Believe it’s Nearly May?

Did you know that May is named after the Greek goddess Maia who looked after plants? That is why we are offering you the opportunity to celebrate May by joining Emily from Bunnings, here at the Community House to create your own Kokedama. Kokedama is a ball of soil, covered with moss, from which an ornamental plant grows. The idea has its origins in Japan, where it is a combination of the nearai bonsai and kusamono planting styles. Today, Kokedama is very popular in Japanese gardens. This is a free activity on 27th May beginning at 1.30. Call Vicki or Nic at the House for more information or click here…

  • Social Sisters -friendship at any age.

Have you ever asked a small child what age old is?  You will get an array of responses – from 120, 1000, 87 to 42 – even 26!  As a small child you would never even consider having a friend way older or younger than you – that would not be cool!  However, as we grow and mature, we realise that age is irrelevant.  Friends come in all shapes and sizes and connections are made across generations.  Some of my best friends in life are older or younger than me and the absolute joy and love we share has no age bounds.  That connection across generations is one of the…
